Connect asemb.ly to your AI assistant

Use the asemb.ly MCP server to build and edit your photo book from Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor. Free to connect with your asemb.ly account. Server URL https://mcp.asemb.ly

asemb.ly is a photo book app. Templates, editing, ordering, and your account are documented in the rest of these docs. This page is how you connect an assistant.

Our MCP server lets you build and edit your own asemb.ly book from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or another app that supports remote MCP servers.

https://mcp.mosaicbook.design still works for existing connections.

Sign-in: Your AI app opens an asemb.ly sign-in page. Once you sign in, it can only see your own books and orders. No API key needed.

What you can do

Once connected, your assistant can:

  • Create a book from one of our templates: Chronicle, Atoll, Vista or Terra
  • Add your photos
  • Arrange your photos into layouts automatically
  • Edit text, colors and fonts
  • Swap a photo or a layout
  • Add, delete or reorder spreads
  • Preview a spread as an image
  • See your orders
  • Use version history: save a version, list them and restore one

Auto-layout only arranges the photos you add. It never creates images.

You review, order and pay for your book in the asemb.ly app.

  • asemb.ly is not an AI provider. You bring your own AI.

Connect in Claude

Works on Claude web, Claude Desktop and Cowork. Free plans can add one custom connector.

  1. Go to Customize > Connectors.
  2. Click Add, then Add custom connector (on some versions, hover Custom and pick Web).
  3. Name it asemb.ly and paste https://mcp.asemb.ly as the server URL. Click Continue.
  4. Keep the sign-in settings Claude detects and click Add.
  5. Click Connect and sign in with your asemb.ly account.
  6. In a chat, turn on asemb.ly from the connectors menu.

On Team or Enterprise plans, an owner adds the connector under Organization settings > Connectors first. Then each person connects their own account.

Connect in ChatGPT

Use ChatGPT on the web.

  1. Go to Plugins.
  2. Click the plus button, then Add custom MCP server.
  3. Name it asemb.ly and enter https://mcp.asemb.ly/mcp as the server URL.
  4. Choose OAuth for authentication.
  5. Read the warning, tick I understand and want to continue, then click Create as a plugin.
  6. Sign in with your asemb.ly account when asked, and install the plugin.

On Business or Enterprise workspaces, an admin may need to allow custom MCP servers (developer mode) first.

Connect in Cursor

Add asemb.ly as a remote MCP server. Put this in ~/.cursor/mcp.json (all projects) or .cursor/mcp.json (one project):

Then sign in to asemb.ly when Cursor asks.

FAQ

Does it cost anything to connect?

No. Connecting is free. You only pay when you order a printed book.

Do I need an asemb.ly account?

Yes. Your AI app opens an asemb.ly sign-in page when you connect. Sign up free.

Can I order a book through my assistant?

Your assistant can build and edit the book and show your past orders. You review, order and pay in the asemb.ly app.

Is asemb.ly an AI tool?

asemb.ly isn’t an AI company. We don’t run AI models, we never train AI on your photos, and we never use AI-generated images. The MCP lets you bring the assistant you already use, like Claude or ChatGPT, and it can only work on your own books when you sign in.

Which apps work with it?

Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor. Other apps that support remote MCP servers with sign-in may work too.
